For mothers day the Primary presidency in our ward decided to allow the teachers to go to Relief Society for a lesson and some cheesecake.
So we planned to have the men take over opening exercises, singing time and sharing time.
Benson was nice enough to take over singing time and sharing time.
It was my turn to conduct that day so I decided to be there for the beginning and let all the kids know what was going on (anyone who has worked with kids knows how they respond to change - they go CRAZY)
Well, I introduced all the men (their dad's mostly) and we sang a welcome song, then I was shooed out to Relief Society. As president and first counselor of the primary Lindsey (the president) and I decided we would take turns sneaking out of our RS lesson to go make sure the men were holding it together. We learned some important lessons that day.
Reasons Women are Called to Primary
#1 - Little girls LOVE their girl teachers
The first time I went into the hallway, one of the 4 year old girls opened the door and peeked out with a terrified look on her face...when she saw me she asked in a quiet little worried voice
"Where's my teacher?!"
"Where's my teacher?!"
I couldn't help but laugh a little and explain that her teacher got to go to a special class for mommy's today and opened the door to lead her back to her class. When I looked in I noticed it was her dad sitting with the class... relieved to see that at least she had a familiar face in there I told her
"See it's okay your dad is here!"
to which she responded
"Yeah, but I want my teacher!"
"Yeah, but I want my teacher!"
#2 - Kids believe pretty much whatever you tell them.
As part of their sharing time the dads helped the kids fill out and color cards for their moms.
While in the process of helping the kids fill out their cards Benson noticed a little boy trying to sneak out into the hallway. Thinking quickly Benson ran over to the microphone and announced to the entire primary
"I just heard there were monsters in the hallway - so you might want to stay in here"
With this announcement the little boy hurried back to his chair - far away from the hallway monsters. But another little boy approached Benson a few minutes later and told him
"I am so much tougher than those monsters!"
#3 - Kids repeat what you say
When the primary kids sang their opening song, they were kind of trailing off at the end... Benson told them
"That was pathetic!"
and made them sing again...
for the rest of the time he had random Jr. Primary kids yelling out
"That was pathetic!"
#4 - Men are just not as fun
After one little 5 year old boy announced quite loudly that their singing time was
"SO boring!"
Benson told them they could play a fun game.
After the game was over the same little boy let him know how he felt about that
"That was it?! That was dumb."
4 witty remarks:
Hahah, so funny. Cute post. P.S. Cute header. I usually read your posts in my google reader so I hadn't seen it. :)
Amen, sista!! Heavenly Father knows what he's doing stacking the primary with the gals!
Too Funny! I agree 100% with Rani! He knew what he was doing!
This is one of your Aunts by the way, on Benson's side!
I totally agree. Hey this is Liz Filichia. I went to school with Benson. Sarah, you seem like a perfect match for him.
